Early Reflections

I am trying to live in the moment, but it is difficult not to begin to reflect on this great semester. I return to the United States on May 18, so I do not have much time remaining for my study abroad adventure. I would like to share a few beginning ideas. I promise to flesh them out later:

There are aspects of of my vie francaise that I would like to recreate chez moi.
  • picnics with friends, either potluck-style or with food from the market
  • fresh bread that knocks your socks off
  • eating a multi-stage meal, even when cooking for myself
  • walking, biking, or taking public transportation everywhere
  • making free-time to go read in the public library
Feelings that have defined my time in France
  • confidence that comes with being able to communicate with others in their first language, and understanding their words exactly how they intended them
  • making an adventure out of everyday tasks
  • feeling young and in love with life and where I am
  • traveling to new places, often alone
  • enjoying the company of strangers, new friends, or just being alone
 People who inspire me:
  • my host mother, Joelle
  • my program director, Carol
  • exchange/international students at UNC
Phrases I have picked up abroad that I will incorporate into my vocabulary:
  • Il ne vaut pas la peine
  • n'importe quoi
  • Je m'en fiche
  • C'est pas terrible
