Je suis arrivée à Montpellier!
All I can say is that everything is already going well in Montpellier. I'm so happy and excited to finally be here after all the months of planning.
I already get along well with my host mom, Joelle. She is a retired lawyer, who has lived in Montpellier for 15 years. She is incredibly kind and welcoming, and we have already had great discourse about politics and philosophy. I think we will enjoy living together for the next few months.
I had my first adventure today when I navigated the streets of Montpellier by myself as I journeyed to Accent Francais, the language school which is our UNC home base. We had orientation at 10 o'clock, and despite my best efforts to be à l’heure (I allowed plenty of time to get lost), I got very very lost. I had my first interaction with true French strangers, as I asked for directions. I succeeded in finding the building, located just off the Place de la Comedie in the center of town, but only after great effort. Well, check getting lost off my list of things to do! I'm pretty excited that I was able to figure it out in the end. Apparently I know my droit from my gauche (right from left).
Not much else to report. Classes start Monday so I'm sure I'll have more to say as I finalize my registration and begin classes.
I would also like to introduce "Flat Murphy," my companion who flew in my luggage to Montpellier. She is the flatter version of my friend Murphy, who is holding on to "Flat Anna" this semester.
